Benefits Of Sealing Your Brick Pavers

Benefits of Paver Sealing

There are many benefits to having properly maintained pavers. Aesthetically, a well maintained paver driveway, pool deck or patio is much more pleasing to look at compared to one covered with algae and growing weeds. This not only affects you but also your neighbors, potential future home buyers, and certainly the H.O.A. you live within. Algae moss and lichen have a filament root system which is attracted to the minerals in the pavers surface. This degrading root system will damage the surface of your brick just like it damages a painted surface or the roof of your home. The degradation from this growth as well as the fading from the sun’s UV rays can be significantly reduced by the proper application of a quality sealer.

Our Paver Sealing Process

Paver Sealing Bradenton Sarasota FloridaA quality paver restoration actually starts with the visual inspection during the estimate. During this inspection we are checking for paver surface degradation, potential drainage issues, the use of the correct sand, uneven or settled pavers and staining caused by irrigation rust, BBQ grills or even efflorescence. On the day we are to seal you pavers, our first step is to use a surface cleaner. We make two passes, (twice as much as most of our competition) first up and down, then back and forth to make sure we get your pavers as clean as possible. After cleaning and rinsing is completed, we address any staining that was identified during the initial inspection and apply an herbicide to kill any living organisms that have been degrading your pavers.

The next step is re-applying the proper sand to the joints. We use a course grained, screened and rinsed sand that we apply using a wet-sanding technique which helps set the sand deep in the joint. After the pavers have been cleaned, rinsed, chemically treated for weeds and re-sanded, they receive a final inspection to make sure everything is perfect and ready for sealer.

The first coat of sealer is called a flood coat. This saturates the sand and locks it in place once dried. Subsequent top coats add layers of protection from the sun, rain and surface contaminates. This process is very involved and requires proper training and the use of appropriate materials and techniques. Please be very weary of anyone who does not show this level of detail or concern for your property.
